How I Spent My Summer Vacation

Friends,

I feel like I haven’t written in ages! I’ve had a busy few weeks. Since my last email, I spent four days in Chicago for the Labor Notes conference and then about 10 days in Ireland on semi-vacation. I have an extra long updates section below detailing more about all of these, and have included a few pics of recent activities as a supplement.

Now that I’m home, I’m focused on:
1. Digging out of a few email chains I’ve fallen behind on;
2. Catching up on the drama detailed in the IBJ about the potential for a new Major League Soccer team and the sudden and strange turnabout away from the Indy Eleven stadium that the council approved shortly before I joined;
3. Full steam ahead on both the Vision Zero and homelessness policy issues I had been working on in April; and
4. Setting up more channels of communication so that people can connect with each other and with me on topics that interest them. Think: subscription preferences on emails, Discord groups, etc.

Let me know if you have any recommendations, questions, or concerns for me!

My next email will share more details, but for now: I’m fully in support of the student “encampment” movement at IU Indianapolis and IU Bloomington. I encourage anyone to go down to the encampments, talk to the students, and make your own mind up about what they’re doing.

As much as I loved having some time away, I’m very excited to be home in my beloved district, serving the people I care for so much.

In love and solidarity,
Jesse
